Great job man! Guessing when the angel in Acts asks them why are you looking to the sky? Jesus will return the same way… there was probably some similar urgency of get going and ‘go’ do what Je commanded at the end of Matthew lol! Maybe that’s just cause I’m a missionary.
Why not just say what it says, "As you are going..."
Brother, at the end of the day... and you explanation... it is not given as an imperative command. Period! But, tjat in no way undermines what each and every true follower of Christ should be doing... as we are going.
This correct interpretation is much more natural, realistic and effective AND it avoids making everybody somehow feel unnecessarily that they need to uproot and become a roving or "foreign" missionary... which is foreign to the text but has for way too long been overemphasized even glorified, as if those who God calls to do that are in some way better than.
If God desires for someone, to "Go!" I will let Him compell them. I have no need to alter Scripture to contrive a calling.

Interesting point, Ian! But also I think Acts brings some balance because the point of Acts 1 is to go back to the city and wait for the Holy Spirit.
