My most significant experience with Hearsay Theology wasn't in a foreign mission field, it was in a para-church men's ministry in Colorado. The ministry combined very high-level life coaching, fellowship, and relational discipleship. There were parts of it I loved. The problem was the low level of formal theological training in leadership (one of the dangers of the para-church, operating outside the oversight of a faithful local church). The violence done to Scripture in order to maintain a Doctrine of God that doesn't include his wrath or righteous anger at sin to the point that he punishes sinners even unto death was astounding to me. When a community of faith is led to make God in its desired image for him, rather than submitting to his self-revelation through his Word, it can be a very harmful thing. Thanks for writing on this important topic.

Thank you for addressing falsehoods in this way! This is a great analogy of Hearsay Theology verses hearing what God is saying from the truths of the Bible. I pray for understanding in every earnest heart! Thank you for sharing this sir!

I really like that term, "hearsay theology." I'm quoting from this for my Sunday school notes this coming lesson. Thanks Josh!
